Road marking to commence in Atlantic Seaboard, Upper CBD, Central CBD and surrounds

The City’s Urban Mobility Directorate has started with a road marking project, which will cover several roads within the upper and central CBD as well as along the Atlantic Seaboard. Work is scheduled to be completed by the end of June, of which most will take place during off-peak hours.
Planned road marking work will take place along several roads within the following suburbs. The work will be carried out in a phased approach across these areas:
- Atlantic Seaboard: Green Point, Sea Point, Fresnaye, Clifton, Bantry Bay and Camps Bay
- Upper CBD: Gardens, Tamboerskloof, Oranjezicht, Vredehoek and Signal Hill
- Central CBD: Cape Town City Centre and District Six
- Woodstock, Salt River and Observatory
Night work will take place between 19:00 and 04:30 from Monday to Thursday and daytime work has been scheduled between 09:00 and 15:30 from Monday to Saturday.
‘The teams have scheduled most of the work during off-peak periods, including night work and Saturdays, to avoid adding to any traffic congestion. We aim to complete all the road marking by the end of June and thank road users for their patience. Where possible, I recommend that commuters use alternative routes during this period,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility.
The works include the repainting and refreshing of road markings to ensure better visibility for both motorists and pedestrians. This forms part of the City’s ongoing road maintenance programme aimed at improving road safety.
Motorists are advised to exercise caution when travelling through work zones, adhere to temporary signage and be mindful of roadwork personnel on site. Residents and business owners can expect some noise during this time.
